Timber Mountain
Program (TMP)

For First Year
Scouts.

The Timber Mountain program (TMP) is an all day program designed for new Scouts coming to Boy Scout camp for the first time to work on basic scouting skills. If the Scout has already attained the rank of Second Class, this program may be of little help. The program concentrates on teaching basic scout skills and will help Scouts in mastering skills in camping, cooking, hiking, and first aid.  Scouts will have the opportunity to learn many scout skills, such as fire building, cooking, the patrol method, orienteering, and hiking.  The Timber Mountain program emphasizes the patrol method to prepare young Scouts to be an integral part of their troop’s home program.

Scouts will spend all program hours with their Timber Mountain patrol.  In addition to the skills learned in the TMP area, scouts will spend time in the aquatics and handicraft areas.  Based on their ability, they will be learning how to swim or working on the Swimming merit badge.  In handicraft, they will be working on the Art merit badge.  Each patrol will go on a day long hike that focuses both on hiking skills and on outdoor skills.  There is an overnight on Thursday night where all Scouts will buddy up and sleep in backpacking tents for the night.  We aim to make sure all scouts have a sense of accomplishment.

As with merit badge sessions, Scouts are expected to attend each day during the week. There will be a special meeting of all TMP participants on Sunday evening right after dinner at the Eppard Shelter.  The program will culminate in an exciting overnight camping trip on Thursday night.
